Adblue® is a solution made up of urea and water which is injected into the vehicle’s exhaust system, reacting with the Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) before it leaves the exhaust, breaking it down into harmless nitrogen and oxygen. It does this by turning into ammonia and it’s this process that breaks down the NOx and significantly reduces the amount of NOx particles in exhaust emissions. The process is managed by a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. Our Adblue® is manufactured within Verband der Automobilindustrie e.V. (VDA) guidelines and to the high standards of ISO22241 (issued by the International Standardisation Organisation). Every batch of Adblue® we make is independently lab tested and certified. Beware of similarly branded products available for lower prices than officially branded Adblue® – these are often unlicensed and may cause damage to your vehicle.
Adblue®, contrary to popular belief, is not pig urine (or any other urine for that matter). We can categorically say that it is a high purity chemically manufactured solution and has never seen the insides of a farm animal of any sort.
Aside from the warm fuzzy feeling you’ll get, knowing you’re doing your bit to save the planet, there are some other reasons you need to use Adblue®:
- Since 1992 the European Union has imposed limits of emissions through their “Euro Standards” and all heavy vehicles must comply in order to reduce their level of NOx emissions.
- These standards also apply to cars (the latest one being Euro 6), so if you’re driving a newer diesel car chances are it needs Adblue® in order for you to actually make it go, which is a pretty basic requirement to get from A to B.
This depends on your vehicle engine, size of load carried and length/type of journeys travelled. It also depends on whether you drive like Lewis Hamilton, your grandad out for a Sunday ride around the countryside or somewhere in between. For smaller users, typical consumption is around a litre of Adblue® for every 600 miles, but this can vary. Adblue® consumption is usually around 5% for diesel vans and lorries. When it comes to larger vehicles/fleets it’s worth purchasing larger quantities such as an IBC or bulk tank – if you give us a call, we can help you work out which is the best solution for you.
Yes! As long as you don’t drink it, bathe in it or breathe lots of it in, you should be OK….. It is a colourless, non-toxic and non-flammable liquid. If storing large quantities, however, care must be taken to avoid spillage/leakage as it can be harmful to surface or groundwater.
Adblue® needs to be kept in a clean, sealed container to avoid any chance of contamination (a big no-no if you want to keep your SCR system in tip-top shape.) It needs to be kept in a suitable storage container out of direct sunlight and between -6°C and 25°C. Luckily for you, we provide all types of storage solutions so you don’t need to worry about sourcing your own. The shelf life of Adblue® is around 12 months. Please read our dedicated page on Adblue storage.
Yes. Our independent urea blending facility based in the centre of the UK can blend and deliver urea solutions of any strength and purity to anywhere within the UK with very short lead times. Examples of this are Nox reduction on selective catalyst equipment such as combined heat and power systems and Nox reduction in none selective catalyst plant such as waste incinerators. SCR & NSCR grade urea solutions are available in 15, 20, 30, 32, 40, 45 & 50% w/w concentration.
We offer credit on various terms – please contact us for more information and we can run through an application with you.
We often get asked ‘how much does AdBlue cost?’ However, it isn’t always a simple answer. The amount of AdBlue you want and in what form you require it, like a can, drum or in bulk, for example, can all affect the overall cost of AdBlue. Please read our dedicated page on Adblue Prices.
Developed for the motoring industry and made of urea and water, AdBlue is used in many diesel vehicles and is actually a legal requirement in trucks and modes of public transport that were manufactured after 2005. However, despite it being a necessity to many, not all know the benefits that using AdBlue brings. Please read our dedicated page on the benefits of using AdBlue.
